These textures from the Lithica quarry in Menorca vary in scale and origin. Some of the images are of vast walls, measuring tens of metres across while others span less than 50cm. The featured marks come from handheld tools, heavy machinery, geological formation, and weathering over time. These sandstone quarries were originally carved with only handheld tools, leaving the organic shape of the harder surrounding rock. Just as human interference resulted in another natural shape, the human-made textures blend with the inherent patterning.
